The Stillfleet Core Rulebook

Created by Wythe Marschall

The long-awaited new sci-fi TTRPG as heard on Fun City: unique, flexible rules + an unforgettable game universe! If you missed the Kickstarter campaign, you're not too late! You can still order the professionally designed and illustrated, ~340-page hardback book. You can also pick up our second official venture (playable scenario), The Rain Thieves. This is politically charged eco-horror at its finest!

Final (planned) stretch goals

We just. Can't. Keep. Up. We're all working hard to make sure the books (rulebook + venture) are finished on time, develop our new series of mini-ventures, and finalize the details of printing. In the meantime, we keep hitting stretch goals!

To celebrate, we've decide to unlock both of our remaining planned stretch goals: hardback print upgrades + an all-new, 2-episode arc of Float City, over on Fun City Ventures. No joke.

We're beyond excited to make this announcement, and our fingers/antennae are crossed that we'll be able to reach these final goals.

Borough Bound crossover

We're extremely happy to have enticed our friends over at Borough Bound into bringing some elements of Stillfleet to their latest city—the flying, dieselpunk, goblyn-run free port of Gruuk Jit'Jit.

Check out the post here (tons of free content!), download some maps and music, and stay tuned for future Borough Bound collaborations.

We love well-written speculative urban planning—by turns philosophical, funny, and narratively rich—and we're looking forward to running a venture in Gruuk Jit'Jit very soon.

One Shot Test Kitchen appearance

Our friends over at the OSTK podcast were kind enough to invite Ethan and Wythe on for a quick (~2.5-hour) real-play one-shot followed by an interview about the design, politics, and future of Stillfleet. If you like actual-play/game-design chats, check out these episodes and subscribe to OSTK!

(If you want to hear more about the game's creation, check out this interview with Pod of Blunders, recorded last year.)

Stillfleet: The Original Soundtrack, Vol. 1

Last but certainly not least, update-wise, some of our musical friends have created a full-on, official OST for Stillfleet: these 11 tracks are bangers in their own rights, and they also work as vibe-appropriate background scores for different moments in your epic sci-fi TTRPG sessions. Listen on your favorite (sigh—giant, corporate) streaming service:

Would people be interested in buying the high-quality MP3s of these tracks as an add-on? Comment and let us know.

Major thanks to all of our artists—Sam Tyndall of Cuneiform, EJ Whiten, Joo-Young Kim, XeroPulse, and Will Savino/Music d20/Borough Bound—and thanks to Will for mastering the album and getting up streaming.

ZineQuest shout-out

In the spirit of supporting other game designers, we may shout-out a few other August Kickstarter campaigns to check out. First up, Ceres: The Planet That Never Sleeps. This city-planet setting feels ripe for Stillfleet-ish intrigue. And I just love the name "The Church of the Process" as a faction. Check it out.

Hope everyone has a great weekend. Happy end-of-summer!

20K! We've unlocked cards, art prints, and mini-ventures, and there's more to come
over 1 year ago – Sat, Aug 06, 2022 at 06:12:52 PM

Hello, voidminers!

We continue to be blown away by the interest in Stillfleet. Thank you for your support, and for spreading the word. Feel free to hop onto our Discord server and join us for a game!

Update: UNLOCKS

We have now unlocked:

  • A new option for T-shirts (design coming soon), as add-ons
  • A new option for enamel pins (design coming soon), as add-ons
  • Quick reference cards, as add-ons
  • Art prints by Ethan Gould (2 options to start, another option unlocked every 5K), as add-ons
  • The mini-venture based on The Rain Thieves (but featuring new material), also by author Aaron H.; we'll drop this one as a PDF for all backers as soon as it's laid out
  • Another free mini-venture by editor Stephen Aubrey, which we think you're going to love for its humor as much as its spooky space-mystery plot (another mini-venture will be unlocked every 5K; these will be published as PDFs for backers after the campaign—we can only work so fast!)

Download "Grim Harvest!"

AND, if that wasn't enough to give you some ways to play the game, we just published our very first mini-venture over on Hyperdrive Fleet, a prolific new Czepeku map site that focuses on hulks. Check it out! We loved working with HDF and thinking about how a dread husk gnome planet-miner would really work…

Okay, that's all for now! Coming out soon:

  • Sample tracks from the Original Soundtrack!

BIG DAY ONE: stretch goals + Original Soundtrack!
over 1 year ago – Tue, Aug 02, 2022 at 12:32:47 AM

Wow.

Yesterday, we were a scrappy indie game design collective thinking about ways to hit our goal over a month and print a few nice hardback books about space politics. Today, we are humbled by the response of the indie TTRPG community. Three thoughts:

First, thank you. We had been hesitant about the right time to release the full rules. Your response signals to us that this is, indeed, the proper time. All other objectives aside, we will at least send out finished Core Rulebooks as PDFs later this year, and you can play with the confidence that you are using the canonical version of rules for a game that encourages you to abandon/rewrite canon!

Second, we have just put up the first list of stretch goals. We have a list, and you've already unredacted and then polished off the first two goals: new T-shirt and enamel pin designs (final designs to come).

Up next in stretch-goal land? Our first deck of archaetech and encounter cards.

Third, the tunes.

We are proud to announce that—since we smashed through our goal—we are releasing the Stillfleet Original Soundtrack ☉ Vol. 1.

The album, which will be posted on streaming services, will feature five very different artists, all extremely talented: Joo-Young Kim, Will Savino (Music d20 and Borough Bound), Sam Tyndall (Cuneiform), EJ Whiten (Royal Sun), and Xeropulse. It's a dynamic, gripping mix of sci-fi rhythms and tones, ranging from industrial to chiptune to metal to shades of pop—that is, it's an album every bit as weird as the game. More details to come.

Shipping :/

Finally, some folks have asked about international shipping costs. Shipping costs from here in Queens, USA, to other countries are very high, period. We had to choose some numbers to launch, so we did our research and used what looked like the best-for-you number available: reasonable for the EU, better for folks farther afield.

That said, we are still exploring options. For one, if we do well enough, we'll look into printing in Europe to lower costs to many countries.

In the meantime, of course we understand if the shipping costs are dissuading. Our goal is just to get the game into the world, and we appreciate everyone who is supporting us, in any way, especially given all of the problems out there in the non-gaming world.

Next up:

We have some really exciting collaborations in the works… Stay tuned!
